Questions to ask before a radon mitigation quote
Make your next conversation useful. Prepare the details that help define a clear, project-specific scope.
Bring the completed test report
Provide the testing dates, duration, device or laboratory details, placement and reported concentration. Health Canada recommends a long-term test of at least three months to estimate exposure. A neighbouring home’s result cannot establish the concentration in yours.
Explain the home’s construction
Describe the basement or crawlspace, sump, floor drains, finished rooms and any additions. Tell the professional about combustion equipment and ventilation changes. The layout and ground-contact surfaces affect the investigation and system design.
Ask how performance will be checked
Discuss the proposed mitigation approach, pipe route, fan location, noise, electrical requirements and monitoring indicator. Ask what sealing or access work is included and how the system will be tested after installation. Confirm professional credentials and a written scope.
Keep testing separate from a promise
The Canadian guideline is 200 Bq/m³ for annual-average concentration. Health Canada recommends corrective action within one year when a home is above that level. A quote should explain follow-up measurement rather than promise a household result before the work is assessed.
